This includes pregnant women, newborns, infants and young children, mums, dads, grandparents and athletes. Our services prioritise helping our clients achieve optimal nervous system health and spinal function.
This page is designed to help you learn more about chiropractic care and how our services at Our Family Chiropractor may help you.
What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care mainly focuses on spinal treatment and involves the examination and treatment of the joints, bones and muscles.
Chiropractic care is applied by qualified chiropractors who use their hands to diagnose, examine and treat musculoskeletal health conditions. To help diagnose these conditions, chiropractors may also use medical imaging tools such as x-rays and MRIs.
Chiropractic care may also accompany a person’s primary method of treatment by relieving other musculoskeletal issues associated with their health conditions.
What do chiropractors commonly treat?
Our patients usually visit us for help with:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Headaches
- Posture problems
- Sports-related injuries
- Joint pain
- Disc and nerve pain
We can also help with stretching, exercising, massaging, orthotics, and offer lifestyle advice (such as physical activity and healthy eating advice).
What qualifications do chiropractors have?
To become a qualified chiropractor, chiropractors need to have studied a five-year accredited chiropractic program at an Australian university. Australian universities known for their chiropractic courses include Macquarie University, Murdoch University, RMIT University and Central Queensland University. Chiropractors with the equivalent overseas qualifications as approved by the Chiropractic Board of Australia can also become registered in Australia.
Chiropractic care in Australia is also regulated by the government as one of the fourteen health professions, through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Chiropractic Board of Australia. Chiropractors need to abide by the guidelines set out by both these organisations in order to practice.
Do you need a referral for chiropractic care?
No, you don’t need a medical referral to receive chiropractic care unless you are seeking treatment through Medicare’s Chronic Disease Management Program or through the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
