Is chiropractic safe for pregnant women

As a new mum myself, I know the importance of doing all you can to ensure a healthy baby and positive pregnancy experience. We can talk with you about preconception healthcare options and the things you can do prior to conception to influence health and fertility.

We can discuss back pain when pregnant, your quickly changing biomechanics and hormones, and how they impact your body’s stress levels.

We can also discuss gentle treatment options to get your body back to healing mode after birth.

When it comes to chiropractic, yes it is generally safe and effective when performed the right way, to address an appropriate issue, and by the right practitioner.

Chiropractic care often alleviates symptoms like lower back pain, muscle tightness, sciatica and hip pain, commonly seen in pregnancy. Chiropractors are trained how to modify our techniques to accommodate for all trimesters of pregnancy, even when your belly is expanding.

Chiropractic and You

While each woman’s pregnancy experience is different, back pain and other musculoskeletal health concerns affect an estimated 50 percent to 80 percent of pregnant women.

During pregnancy, you may experience hip and pelvic changes, sciatica, back pain, changes to your centre of gravity and painful joints. We often work with pregnant patients to address these common musculoskeletal symptoms.

As your baby continues to grow and the uterus expands, you may also experience:

  • muscle tightness
  • additional pressure on your spine and postural changes
  • more pressure on your lungs, stomach and bladder.
  • misaligned hips
  • increased pressure on your joints

As chiropractors address a range of musculoskeletal conditions, chiropractic care is considered safe and effective during pregnancy and a worthwhile method for addressing such pregnancy symptoms.

Chiropractors use a wide range of techniques in pregnancy to ease back pain. The cause of your back pain specifically will guide us on the target areas we concentrate on for you. Thats why we perform thorough testing on your first visit with us.
